Objectives
and Policies for Vocal Studies
Music lessons should enable students to grow, explore, experiment, expand and refine their musical abilities. However, progress in anything is directly related to motivation and practice, practice, practice! The following guidelines are suggested as a program for advancement in vocal studies:
Vocal students should be particularly aware of vocal habits and care of the vocal instrument. Strain and pain should never be a part of a vocal work out. Always try to use perfect form and techniques on vocal exercises. Remember that you can damage your vocal instrument beyond repair with sustained improper use. Care of the Vocal Instrument Unlike other instruments that you can have tuned or repaired when they don't sound right, the vocal instrument's sound is directly related to the health and well being of the vocalist (that's you!). So, take good care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep, drink a lot of water, exercise regularly, eat right, avoid tobacco and anything that burns and causes smoke, and avoid exessive alcohol consumption (especially before singing). It is also a good idea to avoid screaming and yelling, as these actions tend to damage the vocal chords over time. Lesson Policies Students must bring the following items to lessons everytime:
